Earphones that blow you away
I mentioned about 3 weeks ago that I was going to order some more earphones once payday arrived. I have now had the earphones for over a week.
I bought some Etymotic ER-6i Isolator In-Earphones wasn't sure whether to buy them or not because they seam quite expensive for earphones but I like my music, so thought what the hell. I was also looking at some Sure e3c earphones but were a little to expensive!!
Anyway I bought them off Ebay for about £60 I think they were including shipping from America. On Amazon.co.uk they are £79.99 reduced from £99.95. Wasn't gonna pay this much so Ebay to the rescue ;-)
The Sony MDR-EX71SLB's I have been using for months were excellent I always thought, at least compared to the standard earphones. There is a knack to inserting the ER-6i's into your ears, which the instructions describe. I didn't have a problem putting them in and they instantly cut out all surrounding noise. I had 3 computers running and I couldn't hear them at all, this was without any music playing through them.
I love them, letting you drift away with your music and not being interupted by stuff around you. I guess this could be a very bad idea if running near roads!
I wasn't sure how much better they actually sounded than my old MDR-EX71SLB's, but I wore old earphones in the bath today and thought this doesn't sound as clear. So before writing this I did a little test. I tried the old Sony MDR-EX71SLB while listening to Coldplay - Speed of Sound then switched to the Etymotic ER-6i's. The difference was unbelievable everything was crystal clear and you could hear so much more.
While typing this I'm listening to Dire Straits - Down To The Waterline and I've heard things in the song I have never heard before. Anyway who uses earphones should listen to the same music using some of these, they will be amazed :-)
The only problem I had was after the 1st time I put them in I had problems getting them back out of my ears. There is a knack to this as well as insertion, you have to twist as you pull. I will have to tell the people at work not to yank on the wire to get my attention as they have done before or they might pop my eardrum. May sound a bit dramatic but the earphones create a seal and its like popping a cork when removing them!!
I do have another problem which is that my large philips headphones I use on my computer when its late at night now sound rubbish compared to these. So I might have to buy some more expensive large headphones. Possibly some Ultrasone HFI-650's, now they are some serious M.F.
